About Us
PIE began with teacher Pauline Lee experiencing the public school system and wanting more from the program and more for her students. Ms. Lee proposed a new program, and within six months we had 10 clients enrolled for fall of 2018.
Our Mission
The Program for Intellectual Empowerment (PIE) empowers individuals with disabilities by providing the resources, support, and tools needed for self-expression and personal growth. Using Dr. Ellyn Arwood’s Neuro-Semantic Language Learning Theory (NsLLT), we engage the brain to promote adaptation, problem-solving, and effective communication. Our inclusive environment encourages individuals to develop strengths, express creativity, and break down barriers, redefining education and empowerment to help every individual reach their full potential.
At PIE, clients will be socially engaged, academically challenged and emboldened to be unapologetically themselves.
Our program is designed around the intricate connection between language and brain function. Language bridges a child’s literacy and behavior, shaping how they think and express themselves. By fostering a rich and respectful socio-cognitive environment, we empower children to develop creative problem-solving skills and communicate their ideas in diverse ways.
Here are a few activities our clients partake in:
Perform a play
Plan/execute a Thanksgiving feast for 50 people
Volunteer at the Oregon Food Bank
Perform a choir concert at Pioneer Square
Mail care packages and letters to soldiers overseas
Plant a tree for Earth day
Perform holiday concerts as an ensemble
